Table Ordering Without the Fuss: The Dine-In QR Generator for Restaurants & Cafés
"Table QR codes have gone from pandemic novelty to genuine restaurant staple. Here's how Whizzly's Dine-In Table QR Generator works — and why the implementation details matter more than most people realise."
Table QR codes first appeared in force during 2020 as a contactless alternative to physical menus. Most restaurants expected to retire them once things returned to normal. What happened instead surprised almost everyone: a lot of diners actually preferred them.
Not for everything. But for certain moments — checking what a dish contains, ordering a second round of drinks without flagging down a server, splitting the bill — having the menu on your own phone turned out to be genuinely convenient.
The Dine-In Table QR Generator is designed for restaurants, cafés, pubs, and food service businesses who want to implement this properly — not just print a generic QR code that goes to their website.
How It Works
Individual Table Codes
You define how many tables you have (or how many zones — counter, outside, upstairs). Whizzly generates a unique QR code for each table.
When a diner scans the code, they land on your storefront with two things pre-set:
- Their table number (automatically embedded in the order)
- The order mode set to "Dine In" (so the kitchen knows this is a table order, not a collection or delivery)
This means when the order comes through to your kitchen display or WhatsApp, it clearly shows: > 🍽️ Table 7 — Dine In — Starter + Main + 2x Drinks
No confusion. No "wait, which table was that for?" chaos.
The QR Code Design
You can generate:
- Print-ready PDFs: Formatted for tabletop card inserts (A6 landscape or A5)
- Acrylic stand format: QR + your logo, designed for physical QR stands
- Branded digital PNGs: If you want to design your own tabletop cards
All codes display your business name, a brief instruction ("Scan to order"), and optionally your WiFi password — one less thing your staff have to tell every table.
What Customers Do
- Scan the QR code at their table
- Browse your full menu on their phone (no app download required)
- Tap items to add to their order
- Add any special instructions ("no onions", "allergy: nuts")
- Tap "Send Order to Kitchen" — this sends the order directly to your Whizzly dashboard and WhatsApp
Payment can happen at the end via a QR code you bring to the table, or online through the checkout flow — your choice.
A Realistic Note
Table QR ordering works brilliantly for reorders, drinks, and casual dining. For fine dining, where the experience of a server taking your order at the table is part of the product, it's less appropriate.
Know your context. Many establishments use QR codes for drinks and desserts but take main course orders traditionally. Hybrid approaches work well.
